The blaze, which broke out at 3 a.m., quickly spread to neighboring town homes and condominiums, fire officials said. The lights were out along 39th Street when people knocked on the doors of their neighbors to warn them of the fire.

“It’s just hard fire to get to because it’s in so many void spaces”.

“Very scary. We thought we were all going to have to leave”.

Firefighters have contained a massive 6-alarm fire in Emeryville.

A six-alarm fire destroyed a five-story building that was under construction early Wednesday and forced the evacuation of nearby townhomes, fire officials said.

A Union City auto fix shop burned in a fire this morning.

Crews got the fire under control but will remain on the scene cleaning up and checking for hot spots throughout the day.

No injuries were reported in either blaze. The people displaced by the blaze, the number of which is as yet unknown, are now receiving assistance from the Red Cross at the Emeryville Senior Center.

The East Bay Municipal Water District increased water pressure to the area to help firefighting operations.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation and a monetary estimate of the damage it caused has not been determined.
