Massive Blaze Reaches Nearly 20000 Acres — North Georgia Wildfire

More than 43 fires are burning across eight states in the southeast from Alabama to West Virginia. There strongest need is for hand crews to go into the blaze and manually deal with it, but they’ve only had a few extra crews come to their aid.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced it has authorized federal funds to reimburse costs to North Carolina to fight the Party Rock Fire burning in Rutherford and Buncombe counties. The National Weather Service was tracking smoke via weather satellites that originated in east Tennessee and North Georgia and was carried across much of the state. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture reported 74 active fires across the state at noon on Sunday, affecting more than 13,000 acres.

Williamson County firefighters did respond Sunday to a brush fire that burned roughly 30-40 acres off Old Harding Road near Fairview, Williamson County EMA operation manager Tim Harvey said. Twelve counties have burn bans, Phelps said.

Wildfires in Appalachia force hundreds of people to evacuate
