A large fire erupted Wednesday afternoon at the Puyallup School District bus garage, sending flames and plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky.

At least 70 people were at the scene when the fire broke out.

Central Pierce Fire and rescue said there were no injuries to report.

Several roads were closed, and police evacuated surrounding buildings.

Around 28 school buses were damaged or destroyed. While the cause of the fire is not yet certain, the damage is.

School starts September 6, and this will likely put a snag in bus pick up for kids getting ready to start school.

Puyallup police said the fire was brought under control by about 3:40 p.m.
