Authorities want to prevent the spread of listeria-linked illnesses and deaths, but worry it will be hard to get consumers to dig through their freezers.

The affected products were shipped to all 50 US states, Canada and Mexico and have been recalled due to possible listeria contamination.
At least eight people in North America have become sick with a form of listeria genetically similar to the type found in the recalled products. He told The Associated Press that the CRF plant closed two weeks ago and that the company was trying to pinpoint the source of the contamination. The bacteria can cause serious and even fatal infections in children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. The concern in this case is Listeria contamination.
But the Food Standards Agency said it was now updating its recall to include its Dr. Praeger’s brand Frozen Organic Veggie Burger because this product might contain Listeria monoctyogenes.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it will continue to monitor state illness reports for any signs of additional cases.
The Center for Disease Control says that seven people from three states were hospitalized due to Listeria, and that some of those illnesses have been linked to consuming CRF-manufactured or processed products.
If you find any foods that are affected throw them out. Symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
It was not clear how many packages were affected by the recall.
All retailers who received the products have been contacted. It is said to be one of the largest food recalls in years.

Federal officials are concerned that consumers will not look closely at their frozen foods to see if they are on the recall list because those products do not expire as quickly as other goods, Behm said. Consumers with questions may call the company’s consumer hotline at 844-483-3866, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.
