Mata and Januzaj seeking United exit

Everton have been installed as strong favourites to sign Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata in the wake of the Jose Mourinho controversy on Sunday.

The Spaniard has been replaced after just 30 minutes by José Mourinho in the Community Shield game against Leicester and is said to be eager to leave the Red Devils to join another side this summer, despite his ownership is now esteemed around £30m.

With the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini amongst others battling for the spot in midfield next to the Frenchman, it looks as though Schweinsteiger’s days at Old Trafford are certainly numbered.

‘It is understood the Spain midfielder, who was sold to United for £37.1m by Jose Mourinho when he was at Chelsea, could still have a role to play under the Portuguese manager’.

The report adds that United are confident of selling the 32-year-old, and don’t expect his wage demands to be a stumbling block to a move elsewhere.

Mourinho made a decision to sell Mata to United in January 2014 due to the Spaniard’s low work rate and the 28-year-old was tipped to be the first casualty of the Portuguese’s regime.

Slovenian Dejan Stefanovic had previously told BBC Sport that Mourinho was “bullying” the German midfielder, who has been told to find another club.
