Mata opener psychologically important for Man Utd says Mourinho

United manager Jose Mourinho says Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still a player to be reckoned with despite the Swedish star reaching the veteran stage of his career.

Following his strike at Bournemouth, he has scored on his debuts in the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

England captain Wayne Rooney and summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic added to the Spaniard’s first-half opener in the second period before Adam Smith struck Bournemouth’s consolation.

“He wants to win the Premier League, not the Golden Ball”. But for somebody with so many years in football, to have that feeling is normal.

“It’s the Premier League and one mistake is punished”. I understand it never changes.

Mourinho is desperate to restore his tarnished reputation after being sacked by Chelsea last season and the United manager enjoyed an encouraging return to the touchline in his first league match since a December defeat at Leicester triggered his exit from Stamford Bridge. We don’t hide in our words or our approach, so we are going to fight until it’s possible. Winning it or not is another story.

“It’s something we need to improve on”, Bournemouth defender Steve Cook said.

The France global was suspended for last weekend’s win at Bournemouth due to bookings he picked up at Juve last season. But we want more than fine.

“We played a very good first half and I think we were very unlucky to concede a goal just before half-time”, Wenger told Sky Sports. With Porto, it was the same.

“I’m really happy now”, Mourinho continued. “Playing in Spain, for Villarreal is different to Man U”, he said. Last weekend, he guaranteed victory in the Community Shield the day before the event took place.

“But to be surrounded by organisation makes life easier”.

“Very composed, very organised”, was Mourinho’s verdict. We created a habitat of stability. “But the reality is that he’s showing great qualities”.

Marouane Fellaini also played an important role in the midfield. Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford – these are the guys with him. So he knows what he can be for them.

On the match, he said that it was a “tough game” for both teams and acknowledged Eddie Howe’s team’s efforts in the first half, saying that “they did well“.

And speaking to Sky Sports, Ibrahimovic suggested he was happy enough with life under Jose Mourinho that he could extend his stay for longer than the one year now on his present contract.
