Mata urges United to focus on strong finish

It was City’s third title in seven seasons and easily its most convincing, with Pep Guardiola’s team 16 points clear and still having five games to play this season.

An unimpressed Jose Mourinho branded his side “masters in complication” and said some of his players got carried away by their 3-2 win over Man City last weekend and lost focus.

He said: “There’s players all over the world Portugal, Spain – you name it – wherever”.

Manchester City need just 13 points from their last five games to reach the 100-point mark in the Premier League; something that has never been achieved in the English top-flight (based on three points for a win). That is consistency at every level and not just the performance level, but day by day everything must be consistent from day one until the last day.

The French worldwide deservedly received praise for his performance, but Jose Mourinho instructed that he wanted to see more consistency from him following the result. That Paul Pogba, on that day, was what an £89.3 million midfielder truly looks like.

“I had a feeling when I woke up this morning”, Kompany said.

“But he has to go for that stability and to go for that stability, the first thing is stability at training level, stability during the working week”.

The nature of their performance allowed Guardiola to hit back at those who had criticised him after the recent blip of three consecutive defeats.

West Bromwich Albion earned a hard-fought victory over Manchester United yesterday. If you were a fan you would have been expecting far more.

“In general open play we had a couple of chances”, he said.

“We still need to improve to reach the last level which is the most hard thing”. We are not going to do anything insane.

United are second in the table with 71 points.

What would have been most disappointing for the Old Trafford outfit is the fact that it was them that handed their “noisy neighbours” the title instead of making them wait even longer for it.
