Match Reports: Manchester United 2-1 Swansea City
Rooney struck a 75th-minute victor – only his third of the Barclays Premier League campaign – as United beat Swansea 2-1 to claim their first win in nine attempts.

Manchester United got their season back on track with a scrappy win against Swansea yesterday and it may have just bought Louis van Gaal some time at Old Trafford.
The goal was special for a second reason as it took the England record goalscorer to becoming the second-highest goalscorer in Premier League and United history. For me, it is more important he scores now and he scores today (Saturday).
“It was his left foot behind his right foot”, Van Gaal said.
“I think we played a very risky system against Swansea because they had a shape with four midfielders in a diamond”, Van Gaal said. “I hope it is a fantastic starting point for the team and for him”.
With already the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku playing some major roles for their respective clubs, it will be hard to prize them away in this time of the season. We are training but scoring goals is a quality. “In the second half we created fewer chances but we scored”.
Despite this, Van Gaal is unsure if keeping Hernandez would have solved his side’s goalscoring crisis.
Southampton lost 1-0 to the Canaries and Koeman tweeted after the game: “I tried to explain why I am angry after this defeat!”
The 77th-minute strike was Rooney’s first United goal in two months.
The goal sparked United into life, with the team’s passing becoming sharper and Ander Herrera shooting over, but Swansea nearly equalized when Andre Ayew headed Sigurdsson’s cross against the post in the 64th.
“I am very happy for the players because they had to play under big pressure and now we have won”, he told reporters. He wants to play, but I can imagine that he can’t always play in this world.
“It is also that he has played every game and sometimes he needs rest”.
But Swansea equalised through Glyfi Sigurdsson’s looping header with 20 minutes remaining.

“We’re always looking for solutions in the team, but we still have a good team and we can still score goals”.
