Matchday: Tottenham 4 – 1 West Ham

After scoring just once in Tottenham’s first five league games of the season, the Englishman has found the target in each of his last four Premier League matches and has surpassed his tally in all competitions at this point last season.

Manager Slaven Bilic is doing a wonderful at West Ham at the moment, and their football has also been very good to watch.

Following his outstanding recent goal for England against France, much of the early attention inevitably centred on Dele Alli and the midfielder – curiously switching with Mousa Dembele from his usually-deeper position to No 10 – was central to Spurs’ opening goal.

“The performance matches the result to be fair”, he told BBC Sport. “You could feel from the touchline the players believed in the way we play”.

“No excuses, they were better”, he said.

Rose and the Spurs would go on for a 4-1 win at White Hart Lane in London.

West Ham come into this just five points off the top of the Premier League and will leapforg Spurs should they triumph in this one, so there is plenty of incentive for them as they aim to take their strong start into the winter months.

“We share the same philosophy and are convinced the way we play is the best in the world”.

With leaders Leicester untested and Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United showing signs of vulnerability, Spurs now look the league’s most robust team, but Pochettino said it was too soon to anoint them title contenders.

The visitors’ task became even tougher in the 33rd minute – Christian Eriksen’s corner finding Alderweireld, who had lost his marker Winston Reid, allowing the defender to head in simply from six yards out.

The reluctant recipient of a throw from Adrian, Tomkins passed the ball straight to Eriksen, who moved it on to Kane, and the England striker drove a low strike through Adrian from outside the box. West Ham’s defensive woes compounded as the twenty-two-year-old’s low effort slipped underneath Adrian.

West Ham schemer Manuel Lanzini capitalised on a wayward Walker pass to beat the full-back and smash an 87th-minute consolation goal high past Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Jamie Redknapp says Tottenham Hotspur aren’t good enough to win the Premier League title this season.

Tottenham were two up at half-time but it could have been more given they missed a number of early chances, including Kane scuffing wide when sent through one-on-one with Adrian.
