Mateen was apparently involved in Orlando’s local gay scene and was a regular at Pulse, the night club that he shot up, according to multiple reports from people who knew him and patrons of the club.
“We went to a few gay bars with him, and I was not out at the time, so I declined his offer”, the classmate told the Post.
According to reports, Noor Zahi Salman told the Federal Bureau of Investigation she accompanied her husband on target scenes – including the Pulse nightclub and Disney World – “because he wanted to scope them out”, as well as driving him to the store to buy ammunition.
A former classmate of his police academy class came forward alleging that Mateen once asked him out and that they and others often visited gay nightclubs together.
Noor Mateen has reportedly also told authorities that she was with her husband when he purchased ammunition and a gun holster.
United States investigators say they have uncovered strong indications the gunman in the deadly Orlando shooting had become radicalized and potentially inspired by foreign terrorist groups.
The murky picture of Orlando gunman Omar Mateen grew more complex Tuesday with word that the FBI is investigating whether he had been a regular at the gay dance club he attacked and had been leading a secret life as a gay man.
Noor Mateen is cooperating with the FBI at this time, answering questions and helping in the investigation.
Salman also confirmed her husband’s purchase of deadly weapons before the massacre and has apparently already undergone a polygraph test.

The FBI investigated Omar Mateen for 10 months beginning in May 2013 after he was said to have made inflammatory remarks in support of terrorists.
Some psychologists raised the possibility that Mateen was sexually conflicted and lashed out, or else was casing the nightclub and trying to find potential victims online. How that culture played into the toxic stew of influences that drove Mateen to commit his apalling crime it may be too early to know, but the more details that emerge, the more complex this story becomes. “I don’t want any more.’ I was just begging God to take the soul out my body”.
Six of the more than 50 people injured in the atrocity are said to be critically ill, with five others in a “guarded” condition. Mateen had attended the same mosque and they knew each other casually, but the investigation turned up “no ties of any effect”, FBI director James Comey said, adding yesterday that his wildly divergent allegiance claims created “confusion” about his motives.
At a news conference US Attorney Lee Bentley repeatedly refused to say whether any charges might be brought against anyone. He said he believed Mateen was gay, but not open about it.

Yusufiy said that her ex-husband had told her that he frequented nightclubs before their marriage, but that he did not tell her they were gay clubs. “That kid came to my house, he came with his wife, his son, and he sat with him”, she recalled, saying he was “very pleasant, very sociable”.
