Facing flak from all corners for offering a compensation of only twenty lakh Rupees to the kin of policemen killed in Mathura violence, the state government reportedly swung into damage control and increased the amount of compensation from 20 lakh to 50 lakhs yesterday.

Even as blame game continued over the violence in Mathura in which 24 people were killed on Thursday, political parties waded into the troubled region to take stock of the situation and score a point over their rivals. “Rather than touring Bundelkhand, he should have been visiting Mathura today”, she said, and demanded a judicial or Supreme Court-monitored CBI probe into the incident.
Addressing party workers in Kanpur on Saturday, BJP president Amit Shah said the Minister gave patronage to Ramvriksh Yadav, who allegedly led a group of 3,000 in illegally occupying the 270-acre government land, and demanded his immediate resignation. Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police Javeed Ahmad confirmed that his body has been identified by associates and the family has been intimated for final confirmation.
Nine company of PAC, along with police personnel, have been deployed in Jawahar Bag to carry out search operation, he said.
According to local officials, the violence occurred when police arrived to evict illegal squatters – believed to be members of a little-known religious sect – in the Jawahar Bagh district of the city of Mathura.

Similarly, district administration officers and employees have made a decision to donate their one day salary for the police officers’ families, an official release said.
