Matt Bomer casting as trans woman leads to claims of ‘ciswashing’

Following in the footsteps of Osca and Oscar victor Jared Leto, out gay actor Matt Bomer will star in a new film Anything, where he will play a transgender sex worker, Variety reports. John will be seen as a man who is suicidal over the death of his wife and moves from MS to Los Angeles, where he can be under the watchful eye of his protective sister, played by Maura.

Timothy McNeil will be making his directorial debut with the feature and the film is based on McNeil’s play of the same name.

Mark Ruffalo is serving as an executive producer for the film.

Gay actor Matt Bomer has signed on to play a transgender woman in an upcoming drama.

Many are already critisizing the casting of Anything, angry that yet again the role of a transgender character is being played by a cisgender actor.

Among those expressing their distaste with the casting choice was transgender “Sense8” actress Jamie Clayton.

Matt Bomer, who became famous for his for as the conman Neal Caffrey in White Collar has sparked controversy over his new film Anything, which hasn’t even begun filming.

After tweeting that, Clayton later shared with her followers that Bomer blocked her on Twitter. Both Eddie Redmayne and Jared Leto came under fire from a number of LGBT rights advocates for playing trans characters in 2015’s “The Danish Girl” and 2013’s “The Dallas Buyers Club”, respectively.
