Matt Harvey’s 2016 Season Could Be Over
The Mets are 6-11 this year in games started by Matt Harvey, who has pitched at a Matt Harvey-like level very rarely this season.

Complicating matters for a suddenly fragile Mets rotation, right-hander Zack Wheeler has had several setbacks in his recovery from Tommy John surgery this year.
Harvey’s agent, Scott Boras, told ESPN’s Adam Rubin the hurler will undergo surgery in St. Louis to correct thoracic outlet syndrome. The Mets are the reigning champions of the National League and frankly have the pitching staff that is strong enough to overcome the season-ending surgery that Harvey will undergo.
Matt Harvey has made a decision to undergo surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, a shoulder condition we learned about yesterday and for which the Mets placed Harvey on the disabled list on Wednesday. This included admitting his injury to NY manager Terry Collins. Doesn’t sound like the news was good and Harvey could go under the knife.
Boras also revealed that Harvey has felt the effects “since spring training” but that the ace “wanted to gut it out” before finally coming to grips with his condition.
Thompson, who confirmed Harvey’s TOS diagnosis on Thursday, is considered the nation’s foremost expert on TOS and has performed the surgery on major league pitchers like Chris Young and Jaime Garcia. What will he be like when he does come back? Harvey (4-10) starts Monday, July 4, 2016, for.
The TOS symptoms could be at the root of Harvey’s struggles this season as he had been enduring the worst season of his career.
The surgery was inevitable, so having it now will help Harvey to get back to full strength for next season. “We’re disappointed that that’s what happened, but you’ve got to look down the road, look at the big picture and now just say, 2017, hopefully he’ll be ready to go”.
“I don’t want it to sound like woe is me, but woe is us”, Collins said.
The injury has undoubtedly contributed to Harvey’s down season.
We are just reaching the All-Star break and the Mets have have over 70 more games to play.

The Mets (47-38) are in second place in the NL East and are trying to build on a surprise World Series appearance previous year. For now, Logan Verrett will take over in the rotation for Harvey, starting Saturday against the Washington Nationals.
