Matt Jones on track for week 1

According to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Heyward said Wednesday morning that he will practice again today and that he doesn’t see a reason why he won’t play Monday night. Jones suffered a sprain in his AC Joint in the Redskins second preseason game and missed the rest of the preseason so unless he gets into full practice you might want to have Rob Kelley handy just incase he is inactive.

The Washington Redskins got good news on the injury front Monday, as wide receiver Josh Doctson and running back Matt Jones both returned to practice.

We break down the fantasy impact of Matt Jones returning to practice following his shoulder injury. Should either of those Steelers players ultimately wind up not being able to play Monday night, it could result in second-year defensive end L.T. Walton receiving a helmet for that game. The fact he shed it just a day later suggests Jones is on track to start next Monday’s game against Pittsburgh. He was activated off the Physically Unable to Perform list just before the final 53-man roster cuts to avoid him missing the first six weeks of the season and he was back on the practice field Monday with no restrictions.

Jay Gruden enters his third season as head coach of the Redskins with a 13-19 overall record, and looks to get his first win in the season’s opening week.

The ‘Skins brass have a lot of confidence in Jones – they proved that not making any adds to the running back unit this offseason. “He’s just a hard worker and he bought into what we do on the defensive line”. It’s going to be interesting to see how he does Wednesday and Thursday. “We’ve got guys who are going to get it done”. “He’s got a good core around him. That’s my position now”. His Achilles tendon didn’t respond after a month off between minicamp ending in mid-June and training camp beginning in late July.

The Redskins drafted Doctson this year out of TCU and were expecting a big season from him.

“For the coaches to make the decision they made, they saw something in him that he was doing well”.
