Trump is back at the center of controversy following an NBC News forum Wednesday in which he praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, falsely asserted he opposed the Iraq War, seemed to criticize United States generals, politicized nonpartisan intelligence briefings and stood by a tweet that implied military sexual assault is the result of women in the armed forces. “She tried to make up for her frightful performance last night”, Trump said. “What I did learn is that our leadership, Barack Obama, did not follow what our experts. said to do”, Trump said.

Early on, while describing attributes the leader of the United States should have, Clinton stressed: “What you want in a president, a commander in chief, is someone who listens, who evaluates what is being told to him or her, who is able to sort out the very hard options being presented”. As nominees for the November 8 presidential election, she and Trump are entitled to receive intelligence briefings.

Clinton hit Trump on Thursday as “someone who has insulted Muslims, insulted a gold star family. someone who has said he doesn’t want to let Muslims from around the world come to our country”. Noah said. “This event was called The Commander-in-Chief Forum”.

Naturally, the media are terrified what Clinton’s abysmal performance at the NBC forum portends for her showing in the upcoming debates.

Clinton’s lead over Trump in national opinion polls has weakened in recent days. Clinton had earlier mentioned a 2002 radio interview with Howard Stern in which Trump said he favored the US invasion.

The first presidential debate, moderated by Lester Holt, is scheduled for September 26. Clinton insisted she would never put ground troops into Iraq again.

Some of Trump’s foreign policy positions, such as his proposal to fight terrorism by imposing a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country, have alarmed not just Democrats but many in his own party’s leadership.

Trump, who has never held elected office, has criticized Clinton’s judgment, attacking her vote in favor of the 2003 Iraq war and her support for the USA intervention in Libya in 2011. The Republican candidate was widely criticized recently when he called her a “co-founder”, along with Obama, of the Islamic State militant group. “And that’s not only unsafe, it should be disqualifying”.

Twitter agreed with both hosts, with the hashtag #Laueringthebar trending after the televised town hall. Afterwards, some of his supporters shrugged off his comments about Putin.

He also asked about her 2002 Senate vote: “How do you think these people feel when the person running to be their commander in chief says her vote to go to war in Iraq was a mistake?” “Trump lies, he blatantly lies, and Matt Lauer moves on“, he said.
