Matthew McConaughey is Rugby Sevens’ latest convert at Rio Olympics
The beaming 46-year-old Dallas Buyers Club actor was so excited he had to stand up to cheer on the pool-bound Americans several times throughout the event.

McConaughey’s observations accurately recount what has been the shock of the tournament so far, as Japan mustered the same spirit that saw them beat South Africa in the 15 man version of the game at the World Cup past year, to take out the most successful sevens nation in history, New Zealand, 14-12.
On Thursday, the Oscar victor and wife Camila Alves – like most people – had their eyes on the pool as Michael Phelps went for gold and glory once again.
After witnessing Phelps’ record 22nd medal win, the couple made a decision to keep things casual as they went for a romantic dinner date. His love for Texas football is no secret, but did you know that he’s also really into Olympic swimming and rugby?
Of course, McConaughey had to meet up with fellow Olympic superfan Leslie Jones, who took video of their hilarious encounter.
That’s a double “aw yeah!” from Team McConaughey-Alves.

Both noteworthy watchers contribute greatly to our Olympic enjoyment, provide us with hours of internet content, and are certainly America’s two greatest living fans.
