Gold has attracted no shortage of talent over the years.

Gaghan previously wrote the script Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic, so hopefully he’s rustled up some more magic here.

The latest comes to us via Vulture, and it’s a trailer for the film Gold.

Matthew McConaughey will plunder the expansive Indonesian jungle for Gold come December 25. At his side is Michael Acosta (Ramirez), a geologist who discovers with Wells one massive goldmine. It stars McConaughey, Bryce Dallas Howard, Edgar Ramirez, Corey Stoll, Toby Kebbell, Bruce Greenwood and Stacy Keach.

“It’s fantastic how a little gold dust can just change everything”, McConaughey says in the trailer.

Matthew McConaughey is in pursuit of gold-both the precious metal and the Oscar kind-in the new trailer for writer-director Stephen Gaghan’s first feature since Syriana.

The film directed by Academy Award victor Stephen Gaghan (Syriana, Traffic), with a screenplay by Patrick Massett & John Zinman (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, “Friday Night Lights”), who are also serving as producers along with McConaughey. Starring Oscar victor Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells, a prospector desperate for a lucky break, he teams up with a similarly eager geologist and sets off on an wonderful journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia. His physical transformation reminds us of his work in “Dallas Buyers Club”, while the film’s vibe (down-on-his-luck guy gets rich, is targeted by powerful interests) is more “Wolf of Wall Street”. The film is inspired by a true story. HWY 61 partner Paul Haggis, Richard Middleton and Black Bear’s Ben Stillman are executive producers.

Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Edgar Ramirez (The Girl on the Train) and Corey Stoll (House of Cards) co-star in Gold, which now has a release date no more specific than “Christmas”.
