Matthew Stafford’s future with Lions ‘very much in doubt’
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions are getting their house cleaning started in the middle of the season by firing general manager Martin Mayhew and team president Tom Lewand.

However, during the 2014 season, it was easy to see that the success wouldn’t last.
The Detroit Lions front office will more than likely replace head coach Jim Caldwell. At a few point in time, all were heavily hyped National Football League prospects who were supposed to help turn things around in Detroit. The Lions were built entirely around their defense, and they were going to have no way of keeping Suh or Fairley. Unlike most companies, the Lions never had to adapt, never had to be forward-thinking, because there was never any danger of going out of business.
Lions coach Jim Caldwell blamed all the negativity surrounding the team on the Detroit media this week, but the reality is that the team is 1-7. “What the Fords must know, and in fact seem to have finally gotten, is that hiring a GM who is shrewd at assessing and collecting personnel has been the failing that accounts for a single Lions playoff victory in 50-plus years”, Lynn Henning, a sports columnist for The Detroit News, wrote. In the 2009 draft, the Lions selected Matthew Stafford number one overall in hopes that he would be the savior at quarterback the franchise desperately needed. Here, she has a chance to reverse her family’s legacy with the Lions, one of losing and making poor decisions.
The city of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jaguars owner Shad Khan have $90 million in upgrades planned for EverBank Field. They could also release him without the June 1 designation and have a hit of $11 million while he is then off the books for 2017.
The Lions will look to pick it up and finish the season strong. Lewand fit the profile of the family friend the Fords couldn’t cut loose. “I’m just being calm, being reserved, and coming through with that challenge and tying to tackle everything as they come”. Dumping Stafford and Johnson would have a huge impact on the future of the Lions.
But through her actions Thursday, Ford has earned the opportunity to take a swing for the fences. Also, no changes have been made to our coaching staff. She is, you know, and since my dad died, I’ve been less involved in the Lions and the NFL.
For the first time, real change is taking place.
“I want to assure our fans that we intend to identify and hire the best leadership in order to produce a consistently winning football team”, Ford said. They can’t be afraid to make major changes.

“When they win people tend to hang out and celebrate a little more”, he says, ” and when they lose people tend to find something else to do with their Sunday so it hasn’t been great”. The next GM and Team President are bound to bring a new mentality and an improved winning approach to this football team.
