Maturing Kyrgios knocks Wawrinka out of Madrid Open

Kei Nishikori is coming off a three set victory over Nick Kyrgios and has dropped two sets this tournament. However, you can’t bet against Djokovic with the way he’s been playing the past couple of seasons. He has got the firepower from more or less every corner. I think he’s picking his spots very efficiently. He has got one of the best serves.

The numbers underscore Kyrgios big-time potential. The 21 year old next will face Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay or No. 13 seed Gael Monfils of France. He’s marching up the rankings and achieving milestones.

The Magic Box buzzed with the intensity of a boxing ring when sometime sparring partners Stan Wawrinka and Nick Kyrgios squared off today. Earlier that month, he knocked off Raonic in the quarterfinals in Miami. Kyrgios hit a tremendous stretch forehand return to set up a drop shot victor extending the lead to 4-1. “It’s about putting it together and making it count week after week”.

The authenticity of the above statement can be verified from the fact that Pat Rafter remains the only Australian man in the French Open semifinal in the past 39 years. Liam Fitzgibbon wrote for Fox Sports Australia that Kyrgios is the country’s best hope at the French Open since Rod Laver. And even though clay covers an important part of the season but from the professionals from down under it has always been a step towards the oncoming grass court season with Wimbledon just around the corner.

Nishikori squandered two break point opportunities on Kyrgios’ serve in the first game of the second set, which proved to be the only chances prior to another tie-break.

“I want to make a smart decision for the big picture”. “I’ll try to control the game, play freely”. Both these players are very unpredictable, vacillating between brilliance and its opposite from day to day, and they have never really played a match with both of them feeling their best (their one completed encounter, at Queen’s in 2015, was also accompanied by injury and illness concerns for Kyrgios).

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios 21 exploded in rage at an umpire yet again on Wednesday before going on to beat Stan Wawrinka and knock the fourth seed out of the Madrid Open
