Puerto Rican newspaper El Nueva Dia first reported the news, adding that Barea has an option for a third year.
Since the start of free agency on July 1st, it was rumored that the two parties had a mutual interest to come to an arrangement.
After the championship run, Barea left in free agency, signing a four-year, $19 million deal with the Timberwolves.
Terry helped the Mavs capture the 2011 National Basteball Association title and started at point guard for the Rockets late last season and in the playoffs after an injury forced Patrick Beverley to the sidelines. He averaged 6.3 points in 10.6 minutes per game off the Dallas bench, shooting 37.6 percent from 3-point range. He also had 3.4 assists per game.
Devin Harris and Raymond Felton also are under contract with the Mavs and have plenty of experience playing point guard, but they are best suited coming off the bench.
Jeremy Lin and the Mavericks could be a good a great combination, and Linsanity 2.0 may happen in Dallas.
The Texas-based team is exploring a sign-and-trade deal to acquire the Harvard standout from the Los Angeles Lakers, sources confirmed to Yahoo! Barea will have to be the team’s last signing because of the nature of the exception – the team can offer it even if it has reached the salary cap.

The Dallas Mavericks have a bit of a hole at the point guard spot, and not much depth at the two (behind Wesley Matthews, whenever he returns to form). He knows the offense and has the ability to create for himself and his teammates. Barea to fill it.
