Nonetheless, it’s hard to complain about a title whose aesthetics so ably capture the gritty nastiness of Fury Road (and, in the process, prove how indebted Fallout and Borderlands are to the film franchise).
So while Fury Road impresses from a purely technical standpoint, I found its value to be questionable in terms of giving a darn what is transpiring from a narrative standpoint. “Max Max” video game, the app-based cab company has been offering free rides to lucky Seattle customers in souped-up, Mad Max-style hot rods. I mention this because it doesn’t autoplay when you put the Blu-ray disc in.

Tom Hardy is featured as the titled Max, a deserted warrior in the Australian desert, while Charlize Theron acts as an Imperator Furiosa, a fighter ruled under the army of the evil monarch inside a society bereaved of water and gasoline. That’s a necessity really as the wasteland isn’t quite as rich a playground as, say, San Andreas In GTA V. In fact, if there’s any criticism at this stage is that while the vehicle driving bits are fun the scenery can get samey. And all with minimal dialogue to boot! “And one of the best movies of the year”.
It’s George Miller’s film but John Seale’s stunning camerawork helps bring it to life.
Relics tell the story of the time before the world fell. Miller was ready to begin pre-production in 2001, but the events of 9/11 and later the second Iraq War shelved the project, and Miller went on to create the animated “Happy Feet” films. Combining elements of traditional film music with electronics, rock and industrial influences, the music of Fury Road enhances the story without ever dominating it – the mark of a great score. But we’ll have a more comprehensive review as soon as we’re able, if you want to hold off.

Okay, there actually is no Oscar category for stunts yet, although there has been a lot of lobbying for one. And that found an even more eager audience so Hollywood threw money at him and we got the somewhat over-the-top Beyond Thunderdome. Finally, how about the way that “Fury Road” not only builds on the “Mad Max” legacy but embraces it?
