May to stay as Green leader, party to revisit Israeli boycott issue
May said in a statement ahead of a news conference in Ottawa Monday morning.

Green party leader Elizabeth May is staying put. Cross the floor to the Liberals?
She has also expressed hope there may be “some other mechanism” that could found within the Green Party’s constitution, other than a leadership race, that would allow it to re-consider the BDS policy before its next policy convention in two years. It was a move May opposed wholeheartedly.
Ms. May said she still intends to run in the 2019 federal election, as she says her priority has been and always will be representing the B.C. riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands.
Here’s what else she had to say about her decision. “It appears I am much loved – it’s surprising to find sometimes in politics”.
She said media commentary made her feel like Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer, attending his own funeral.
“Well I’m struggling with the question of whether I should continue as leader or not quite honestly”, she said in an August 9 interview with CBC.
Elizabeth May says she will continue to lead the Green Party after long consideration spurred by the party’s decision to support a controversial resolution supporting sanctions against Israel. Not to say stepping down is completely off the table. “But I’m more than comfortable with the idea that I might not”.
She later apologized for her remarks at the dinner, when she said that convicted child soldier Omar Khadr had “more class than the whole f–ing cabinet”.
In addition, the party is eyeing a return to its pre-2016 process of holding a ratification vote open to all members for any policy adopted at a convention or general meeting.
But May’s attention will not be focused on this special meeting.
May called the party’s recent troubles a “teachable moment” and said her belief in consensus applies to both how the party forms policy and national electoral reform. Earlier this month, she said she was considering stepping down after the party passed a resolution backing sanctions against Israel.

May said it’s “absolutely not the case” that there is an anti-semitic faction within the Green Party. “And council completely supports me in making that effort”. “But it shouldn’t include a federal political party that’s serious and wants to elect more MPs in the next election”. “It came to a question of support and unity”.
