Mazda launches new flagship MX-5

Recaro seats! These remain hugely desirable among MX-5 fans, swapping hands for as much as an entire auto if you can find someone selling a pair. The Sport Recaro also rides on 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, and has the MX-5 logo engraved upon them.

Mazda has revealed the MX-5 Sport Recaro Limited Edition as a range-topping variant in the range.

Interior additions include an Alcantara dashboard panel, alloy pedals, unique floor mats, Alcantara Recaro seats with red piping and there is red stitching found on the dash, handbrake and gear lever.

That means a headline price for the MX-5 Sport Recaro of £24,295 – £1,000 more than the top of the range Sport Nav model on which it’s based – but you do get more for your money, and if the extras float your boat it’s a good offering. The other changes are all to do with standard kit.

The Sport Recaro also features LED headlights, a leather steering wheel, climate control air-conditioning, DAB radio, Integrated Bluetooth®, integrated navigation system with 3-years free European map updates, rain sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, smart keyless entry, a premium Bose®sound system and cruise control, plus Mazda’s MZD-Connect connectivity and infotainment system with 7-inch Colour touch-screen display and Multimedia Commander. Bilstein dampers and a limited-slip differential also provide the Sport Recaro with excellent road handling, which has been at the heart of the MX-5’s popularity.

The drivetrain, however, is completely unchanged from the Sport Nav, meaning it’s powered by Mazda’s 2-litre SkyActiv-G engine that produces 158bhp and 147lb ft of torque.

The MX-5 Sport Recaro Limited Edition is based on the 2.0-litre 160PS Sport Nav model, but adds a more aggressive look in the form of the Black Sports Aero Kit that includes a rear spoiler and front, side and rear skirts.
