Mazda recalling 2.2 million vehicles over tailgate defect
Mazda Motor Corp.is recalling 2.3 million cars world-wide because of rear door and engine problems, Japan’s transport ministry said Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Separately, the carmaker is recalling 107,000 vehicles in Japan because of a computer problem with diesel engines.
Mazda introduces the CX-3 during its press preview in Tokyo on February 27, 2015.
Mazda said it planned to recall an additional 1.8 million vehicles in overseas markets over the same issue, although it declined to give a regional breakdown. A settings flaw within the engine control unit leads to soot buildup in the exhaust valves that can result in noise, vibration and engine failure while driving, he said.
The company has set up an official “recall information center” online for drivers with questions about the current recall or any of its past recalls for potential issues with other vehicles.

Mazda is the most reliant among Japan’s auto makers on diesel engines, which have come under heightened scrutiny since Volkswagen’s emissions-cheating scandal emerged nearly a year ago. Almost 2 million of the vehicles outside of the US are also being recalled for the same reasons.
