“If we don’t change the legislation, if we don’t get rid of these loopholes where killers are allowed to come into our country and continue to kill – gang members, and we’re just talking about MS-13, there are many gang members that we don’t mention – if we don’t change it, let’s have a shutdown”.

The White House quickly doused the plan – which does not specifically fund a border wall – with legislative affairs director Marc Short telling reporters it was “not sufficient” to gain Trump’s support. “We need to strengthen our borders, not by a little bit but by a lot”. About 80 percent of Republicans have long said they’re dissatisfied with current immigration levels, with 70 to 80 percent of the dissatisfied saying they’d like to see levels reduced, not increased.
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is Majority Whip. “Why not? I mean, they certainly didn’t seem to love our country very much”.
“There is not likely to be a DACA deal, though we’re working every single day, on telephone calls and person to person, to try to reach this bipartisan agreement”, Durbin said on CNN’s “State of the Union” program. Congress has also been haggling over spending caps for domestic programs and the military, as lawmakers seek to finalize a budget for the remainder of 2018.
The immigrants, nicknamed “DREAMers”, received deportation protection under an Obama-era program called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
The bill is also expected to go well beyond the White House’s proposal that provides 1.8 million young illegal immigrants legal pathways to citizenship.
Despite conservatives’ belief that Trump’s offer was too conciliatory, Democratic leadership has bowed to pressure from the more progressive wing of their party, rejecting the offer outright ahead of another government shutdown that will take effect Thursday if lawmakers fail to compromise on immigration legislation.
Trump said last September that he was ending the DACA program, complaining that Obama had overstepped his legal authority in creating it. “The difference between (690,000) and 1.8 million were the people that some would say were too afraid to sign up, others would say were too lazy to get off their asses, but they didn’t sign up”.
Trump has said any immigration deal must include billions of dollars to build the border wall.
Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer said that if the House passes a short-term funding measure with long-term defense funding and sends it to the Senate, where it must pick up some Democratic support to pass, it “would be barreling head-first into a dead-end”. I really don’t – I really am not happy with the way it’s going from the standpoint of the Democrats negotiating.
We’re not dependent on commercial or political support and we do not accept any government funding.

Conservatives like the plan for long-term military spending, but they generally oppose more funding for numerous domestic policies that would get a short-term extension. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, and Richard J. Durbin, Illinois Democrat, which was presented to this month. “Certainly that will change the mix of the vote count over on this side”. But it also cracks down on so-called “sanctuary cities” that do not fully cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts; requires employers to use the E-Verify system to check the immigration status of job applicants; provides funding to hire 10,000 new federal immigration agents; and cuts at least 200,000 green cards a year given to foreigners.
