McCain, Rubio Re-election Bids Move Forward With Republican Primary Wins

John McCain and Marco Rubio have sealed a night of comebacks for the political establishment with the senators seeing off primary challenges to secure the Republican nominations for crucial senate races in Arizona and Florida.

Tuesday’s outcome was what Democratic leaders have wanted for almost 18 months. “Over the past year, I have met and listened to so many hardworking families from across our state”.

Polls show Rubio with an early but narrow advantage over Murphy.

Previously Rubio had announced his retirement from politics after losing his home state to Trump by some 20 points in the presidential primary election.

Rubio has more name recognition than Murphy, though this year being an incumbent is not as helpful as it has been in other years. He continued that line of attack on Tuesday. Until Rubio decided in June to seek another term, it was expected that Murphy’s Republican challenger would, like him, be a lesser-known candidate.

Rubio and Murphy have already begun to train their fire on one another for the general election. But both now face well-financed Democratic opponents who are determined to yoke them to their party’s unpopular standard-bearer.

“With a vacancy on the Supreme Court, with the potential that Chuck Schumer of NY will be the majority leader”.

He told supporters this has been an unusual road back and he was excited about preparing to become a private citizen. “That means the future of the Supreme Court will be determined by the Florida Senate seat.

Marco Rubio, and I’m going to take his challenge seriously when he agrees to serve a six-year term in the Senate”, Murphy said, according to the Sun Sentinel. “The stakes for our nation could not be higher”.

Rubio is polling well ahead of Beruff.

“I am so humbled to be standing here in front of so many people that have been with me for so long to be the Democratic nominee to be the next senator from the State of Florida”, Murphy said. But Beruff never gained traction.

But Rubio has his own bruises. And Rubio is a fundraising dynamo – raising more than $40 million for his presidential campaign – who is battle tested, having won a tough come-from-behind race to win his seat in 2010. “The problem is it isn’t true”, Rubio said. Marco Rubio is both.

“I don’t see that changing much between now and November”, Duffy said. The GOP now holds a total of 54 seats, while Democrats and two independents who usually vote with them have 46. But a series of self-inflicted résumé gaffes uncovered by the Herald/Times altered that equation.

Murphy had no problem beating his primary opponents – political newcomer Pam Keith and three-term Congressman Alan Grayson.

Grayson disputed the accusation but it wasn’t enough to keep him competitive against Murphy. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., to sign Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, in Lynn Haven, Fla. Grayson barely was leading Keith to hold onto a distant second-place finish in the race.

Trump, who faces Clinton in the November 8 presidential election, has endorsed both McCain and Rubio in their re-election bids even though he has rocky relations with both.
