McCann’s RBI double in 11th helps Yankees beat Indians 7
Carlos Carrasco had yet another strong start last week when he beat the Detroit Tigers at home.

Tyler Glasnow (0-1) was charged with four runs in 5 1/3 innings in his debut. Santana added two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Carlos Santana’s RBI infield single in the first inning gave the Indians a quick lead against Sabathia, who was 4-2 with a 3.12 ERA lifetime against his former club.
A night after limiting the Indians to seven hits in a 5-4 victory, NY gave up five home runs in a 10-2 loss to Cleveland on Friday. McCann’s line drive hit on the track in right field and bounced over the head of Abraham Almonte, scoring pinch-runner Ronald Torreyes. McCann grounded into a double play four pitches later, ending any hope for a ninth-inning rally.
He lined a shot off the wall in center for his second career game-ending hit. Since joining the Yankees, CC has started five games at Progressive Field, and in those starts he has a 2.10 ERA in 33.1 innings.
So in Sunday’s final game of the four-game series between the Indians and Yankees, the Yankees may be working without a safety net as it were, if Chapman isn’t available.
Santana started the game with his 20th homer of the season, one more than he hit all past year.
If you know anything about the Yankees (and after today’s broadcast, how could you not?), you know that their trio of late inning relief pitchers, Betances, Miller, and Chapman, is one of the best, if not the best, trio of relievers in baseball. Overall though, Sabathia’s stint in NY has been a huge success. Lonnie Chisenhall grounds out to second base, Starlin Castro to Mark Teixeira. The two teams split the first two games before NY eked out a 7-6 win on Saturday to take the series lead. Salazar (10-3) was selected to his first All-Star team this year.
Adam Wainwright (8-5) worked seven effective innings for St. Louis, which reclaimed second place in the NL Central by a half-game over Pittsburgh to end a rough 4-5 homestand.
Bruce Rondon (3-1) earned the win despite allowing a tying home run to Devon Travis in the seventh. “It’s a fun moment to hit a ball like that”. Two pitches produced two strikes, and with Napoli on the move, Betances went after Ramirez with an off-speed pitch he dumped in front of right fielder Rob Refsnyder for an RBI single that tied the score, 6-6, and put runners at the corners. All told Sabathia finished the afternoon allowing five runs over 5.2 innings, raising his season ERA to 3.77.
That sixth-inning moment was keyed by a pinch-hit walk off Salazar by Alex Rodriguez – his first appearance in a game since serving as Tuesday’s designated hitter in Chicago. Brantley had surgery in November and has been on the disabled list twice this season.
All-Star Corey Kluber (9-8) allowed one run – Brian McCann’s solo homer – in eight innings. Ryan Madson pitched a flawless ninth for his 17th save. Chapman gave up a leadoff walk to Jason Kipnis, but picked him off, retired Francisco Lindor on a fly ball and struck out Mike Napoli for the final out. The three-time AL MVP is batting.
The Twins, whose 30-55 record is the worst in the American League, won for the fifth time in six games. That includes three straight over the Rangers.
The Rockies scored runs in the first three innings, starting with Nolan Arenado’s RBI double in the first off Adam Morgan (1-7). The lowest total score in a round in U.S. Open history is a 63 by Helen Alfredsson in 1994 at the par-71 Indianwood in MI.

“I didn’t realize till after the game how many runners left on base we had”, Tulowitzki said.
