McCarron fumbles snap in OT, Bengals lose 20-17 to Broncos
That is problematic for the Bengals after a 20-17 overtime loss to the Broncos on Monday night left them needing a win and some help if they are to get a first round bye and avoid Wild Card game. I take the blame. “C.J. played big throughout the course of the game”, Kubiak said.

The Broncos (11-4) overcame a 14-0 first-half deficit in clinching their fifth consecutive playoff berth and denying the Bengals (11-4) their first road victory on a Monday night since 1990. A touchdown run by C.J. Anderson of more than 39 yards put the Broncos on top (17-14) for the first time with just over 11 minutes to play.
“We wanted to put ourselves in the playoffs, and we still control things we want to control moving on to San Diego, moving on to the future and how we want to be seeded within these playoffs”, Anderson said.
He could be the Bengals’ playoff pivot as well if Dalton’s thumb hasn’t healed.
McCarron also hurt his left wrist on the play and wrapped it afterward. “I looked up to see the coverage and the snap caught me by surprise”.
Denver’s Brandon McManus had badly missed a 45-yard field goal attempt at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime, but then gave them the edge in the extra period before a fumble from Cincinnati quarterback AJ McCarron was recovered by DeMarcus Ware to end the game. He finished with 22 completions in 35 attempts for 200 yards and a touchdown, but just 81 yards came after the first half was done. However, on the one they didn’t, the Raiders took possession at the Chargers’ 3-yard line after a fumble and proceeded to score a go-ahead touchdown. Even when it’s Brock Osweiler and AJ McCarron, it looks so shiny and attractive that we can’t turn away. It was a little bit like the Pittsburgh game we were in last week, but with the shoe on the other foot.
“I got to do whatever coach feels is best for the team”, Manning said. “I wasn’t nervous out there for the second one”. He’s practiced just twice with his teammates in the last 45 days. Said Broncos coach Gary Kubiak: “Nothing has changed with Brock”. True, Denver probably would have picked up a first down on a second-and-one play, but Burfict’s play was unnecessary.
“They came up with some different blitzes, tried to disguise different coverages”, said McCarron. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders dived into the end zone on Denver’s first possession of the second half, giving the Broncos a third-quarter touchdown for the first time since November 8. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the second season in a row and joined fellow WR Demaryius Thomas (1,187 yards receiving) in achieving the milestone. Denver didn’t stop Cincinnati on third down until 2:31 remaining in the second quarter, after seven straight conversions.
Cincinnati, which at 11-4 has clinched the AFC North, is still holding out hope that Dalton could return for the team’s playoff run.
Dec 27, 2015; East Rutherford, NJ, USA; New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall (15) pulls in pass reception during overtime to setup winning touchdown as he is defended by New England Patriots cornerback Duron Harmon (30) at MetLife Stadium.
McCarron’s injury occurred during the Bengals’ first and only overtime drive.

Asked if Osweiler would be the starter Sunday against San Diego in the regular-season finale, Kubiak said: “Yeah, I mean, I’ve said that”. The OT wins are the most by any National Football League club. With 9:53 left in overtime, Broncos pass-rusher Von Miller clearly forced the ball out of McCarron’s throwing hand before he was able to move the ball forward, but Ed Hochuli’s crew called it an incompletion and somehow kept the call on review.
