McCarthy Running to Replace Boehner as US House Speaker
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced his candidacy for speaker of the House, following John Boehner’s surprise announcement that he is resigning from Congress next month.

McCarthy has been majority leader since 2014, after Virginia’s Eric Cantor lost his Republican primary and resigned the leader post. “John Boehner’s the last one standing who shut it down”, McCarthy continued.
“We have made real progress towards shrinking an overgrown federal government and reforming our broken entitlement system”, McCarthy said in an email to co-workers, according to CNN. “Now that’s not easy and it won’t change overnight but that’s our mission”. While conservative Republicans have said they wouldn’t back any spending extension that continues to fund Planned Parenthood, the House plans to rely on Democratic votes to help pass a stopgap funding measure that includes money for the women’s reproductive health-care group.
Asked how he would be different, McCarthy didn’t offer specifics, except to joke, “I won’t be as tan”.
Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) is widely expected to be the new speaker. “I mean, they’ve all been a party to the misdeeds that Boehner has committed – like rushing legislation to the floor without giving us time to read the bills, kicking people off their committees, taking away their subcommittee chairmanships”.
After the meeting, Boehner said a date for leadership elections will be announced within the next two days.
Scalise released a letter to fellow lawmakers Tuesday appealing for their support and declaring: “It’s time to unite behind a strategy that lets us make the case for our conservative governing vision, and empowers you to drive the public policy narrative in your own district”. We are a part of the largest Republican majority since 1928.
“Speaker John Boehner is a decent, principled conservative man who tried to do the right thing under nearly impossible circumstances. And the more people engaged, the more that committees work, the more that you’ll get a better outcome and solutions”.
“This soap opera doesn’t inspire anybody, so we’ve got to acknowledge why the problem occurred and that’s that the American people are frustrated and their members reflect that”, Messer says.
A few of the more establishment-minded Republicans are disgusted with the Freedom Caucus crowd over their role in pushing Boehner out.
On July 28, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) expressed the frustration of many conservatives by filing a “motion to vacate the chair”, for the goal of ousting Boehner from the speakership.

“I have chose to run for Speaker of the House and graciously ask for your support”, McCarthy said in a statement. McCarthy is pretty young in his career to be moving into the top job in the House of Representatives.
