McClaren delighted with new Coloccini deal
And, after Coloccini penned a 12-month extension to the deal which was due to expire next summer, his boss is delighted to have kept his captain at the club.

The former England manager also confirmed defender Fabricio Coloccini would stay at St James’s Park and remain the club’s captain.
Fabricio Coloccini signed a 1 year contract extension with Newcastle today. The Argentine has not kicked a ball in pre-season and McClaren admitted the player’s head had been turned by the interest of several clubs, including Palace.
Coloccini has clearly lost a step over the past couple of years, yet his style of play is very reminiscent of when he was a much younger player. “I hope we can have a better season”.
I’d count this [Aarons signing a new deal] as a signing and would love it, just love it, if he signed on the dotted line for a few years.
The chaotic spell at the club saw owner Mike Ashley give a rare television interview, answering criticism from fans by stating he would not sell the club until it won a trophy or qualified for the Champions League. I feel part of the Newcastle United family.
“I am also happy to continue as captain of this football club. I am not from this city or this country, and so to be given the responsibility of wearing the armband every week is a very special thing”. I can’t yet speak for numbers three and four (number one, as it happens, will always be a vile little human, despite scoring two against our relegation threatened, again, friends from down the road in the regional capital) but they both will add a lot (goals, mainly) to the side.
I don’t feel great about our prospects this season with all the dead wood still on board.
“I’ve had numerous owners or chief executives and in Germany I had some who were in the press more than I was”.
Newcastle get their season underway with a home encounter against Southampton on 9 August.

The club – without a trophy since the 1969 Fairs Cup – have acquired attacking midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, defender Chancel Mbemba and striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in a bid to improve their squad.
