McClaren: Newcastle change will be painful
They come into the game off the back of last weekend’s 2-1 away loss against Watford and, to make things even worse than they could be, they were knocked out of the League Cup in midweek by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

“We blocked the way that Newcastle usually play to attack and at the same time, we tried to create problems for the Newcastle defence”.
“You want to win every home game, so we’re disappointed”.
“I don’t comment and I tell you why: a few managers can speak about the referee before the game and after the game and a few others cannot”.
I will repeat what I have said on a number of occasions before – I have complete faith that what Steve and his team are implementing will give us the best possible chance of success as a club. Newcastle have scored just three goals in their six Premier League games and they were once again off target on Wednesday night as they drew a blank against the Owls.
Newcastle United legend Micky Quinn has delivered a damning verdict on the club’s current struggles, saying they have the “wally with the brolly” and not the man who succeeded overseas in new manager Steve McClaren. This is, for me, a challenge.
The email, which was published on nufc.co.uk, quoted Charnley as saying: “There is no hiding from the fact that this has been a very disappointing start to our Premier League campaign, and a painful early exit from a cup competition that we were determined to give everything in this year”. Identifying the problems in order to find the solutions is crucial, but we are not in the business of apportioning blame. Mentally, technically, tactically, we have got to find the solutions. We are a team, from the boardroom to the boot room, and we will respond like one.
And the £14m buy from Marseille, who was perceived to be one of France’s most talented prospects not too long ago, is unlikely to figure in the starting line-up when Chelsea travel to St James’ Park this evening. There are no easy matches in this league and that’s we have got to stay focused.
“We set out at the beginning and we have to be strong and have courage ourselves to follow that through”.

Newcastle have netted just three times in the Premier League this season, Mitrovic also yet to break his Magpies’ duck, and so the Serbian worldwide will be expected to hit the ground running on his return to the side.
