McCollum inactive by mistake on pregame roster, misses game
McCollum was ultimately forced to sit out against the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night due to what the team is calling a clerical error. CJ McCollum was mistakenly placed on the inactive list before Wednesday’s loss and Terry Stotts and the Blazers did not realize the mistake until it was too late.

Chris Paul had 21 points and 19 assists to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 109-98 victory Wednesday night over the Portland Trail Blazers, who were without guard CJ McCollum because of a “clerical error”. The six most recent wins have come without Blake Griffin, who is nursing a torn quad tendon. Turnovers plagued the Blazers, while DeAndre Jordan was a menace inside with a mixture of rebounding, blocked shots and alley-oops Add to that some very warm shooting by the Clippers and the first period was one unforgettable mishap.
Allen Crabbe started in place of McCollum, who was dressed and on the bench at the start of the game.
It was an odd game before it started, the Portland Trail Blazers missing their second-leading scorer because the wrong name was circled on a roster sheet. “If someone can explain to me why there is an active list, I’d love to hear it. We can’t get it changed and as coaches it’s tough”.
McCollum said he was putting it all in the past. “Just moving on to the next game”, he said.
The Clippers were led by a sheet of paper and Chris Paul with 21 points and 19 assists. Los Angeles shot 55 percent from the field, making six of nine three-point attempts, and was 13-for-15 from the foul line in the half.
They quickly built a double-digit lead in the first quarter and grew it to 23 by the half, but Portland fought back.
Clippers: Wesley Johnson, who was dealing with a sore right foot, was in the Clippers’ starting lineup…. Portland outscored the Clippers 13-4 to open the fourth quarter, drawing to within 89-83.

“When you have a guy on your team that can recognize plays that you should run without having to look back (at the coach) he called four in a row, that were flawless calls”, Rivers said about his star point guard. Against the Clippers, he’s had double-doubles in all three games, averaging 14 points and 12.3 rebounds. The Blazers beat the Clippers 102-91 on November 20 in their last meeting at Moda Center, a day after L.A. had lost a home date with Golden State.
