Stephen King‘s constant readers are well aware that Flagg has appeared in a number of King’s works, under many aliases- including Walter Padick, the Man in Black.

Interestingly enough, the first actor reportedly being eyed for a leading role was also previously rumored for another major King adaptation: Matthew McConaughey. Variety says he was offered both the lead role of Roland, the heroic Gunslinger, and Randall, the villainous Man in Black and is leaning towards the latter.
Although the deal is in its early stages, preliminary discussions are said to have taken place and both parties are interested, according to TheWrap.
It’s so far unclear as to whether the actors involved in the movie will also feature in this. The movie will be based on the first book of the series.
Nikolaj Arcel is directing, while Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner adapted The Gunslinger.
Long in gestation, Sony and MRC’s The Dark Tower will reportedly span TV and film. We’ll just go ahead and call it now: We’ll be looking at a Stephen King Cinematic Universe in a few years’ time!
King’s book blends horror and fantasy to tell the tale of a gunslinger who has taken up the lifelong quest of locating The Dark Tower – which is the nexus of the universe – before evil invades and destroys the tower, ending all existence.

The Dark Tower heads into production next year for a January 13, 2017 release. Goldsman, Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Erica Huggins are producing with Pinkner exec producing.
