McConnell, Reid, Pelosi Praise Boehner

Amid an election cycle in which voters are supporting outsiders such as Donald Trump and Ben Carson, House speaker, Republican John Boehner and Mitch McConnell have been under intense pressure, unable to prevent or unwilling to stand against President Obama policies that fire up conservative outrage. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, tore into McConnell in a rare personal attack on the Senate floor, accusing the majority leader of lying. He has declined to get rid of the Senate filibuster in order to block the Iran nuclear deal, and critics say he surrendered the fight over federal funding for Planned Parenthood by declaring early on that he would actively seek to avoid a government shutdown.

Nothing less than a complete purging of all those Republicans considered to be “Republicans in name only” [RINOs] may satisfy activists who call themselves “very conservative”.

McConnell, himself, pitched a stop-gap spending bill in the Senate, geared at averting any government shutdown.

He would not elaborate on Lee’s response.

The Kentucky Republican has never been the favorite of tea party-aligned conservatives.

In an interview this month, POLITICO asked McConnell if he anxious about Boehner’s heft as a negotiating partner during the critical fall legislative season.

Teepell said that Jindal has presented plans in specific detail on health care, energy, and other issues, but that the “press isn’t interested in covering that”.

“The problems that Congress is having is not from the House”. Republicans like Boehner, she said, haven’t done so because “they’re afraid of Obama”.

Satisfying those on the right who gloss over the Senate’s supermajority voting threshold – and the need for Democratic votes to get anything substantial done – will be an enormous challenge for both McConnell and whoever replaces Boehner.

The crowd at Washington’s Value Voters Summit cheered as Sen.

Just as interesting as the Drudge Report siren blasting Friday’s news that Boehner was abruptly resigning via the New York Times announcement was Matt Drudge’s suggestive tweet which immediately followed. “As someone who’s in constant contact with our members, it’s clear Leader McConnell has overwhelming support within the conference”, Cornyn said.

But if McConnell is anxious about those sentiments affecting his day job, he wasn’t showing it on Friday.

Instead, McConnell smiled broadly and walked back into his office.
