“That next president ought to have this appointment”.

Currently, there are an abundance of hot topics on the docket before the Supreme Court such as immigration rights, abortion rights, religious freedoms, and environment protections. In an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” days after President Obama selected Merrick Garland as his Supreme Court pick, McConnell maintained that the Senate will not move forward until after the November elections. He later became a federal prosecutor in the Justice Department, overseeing significant prosecutions in cases such as the Oklahoma City bombing.
“Judge Garland is far from being a consensus nominee and would be an incredibly different jurist than Justice Scalia”.
This approach has garnered him bipartisan respect throughout his career.
Chuck Todd asked Kasich in the interview–taped yesterday–about Republican obstruction to Garland even being considered. But McConnell says the Republican-run Senate will not have a hearing or a vote on Garland.
There is simply no excuse for delay.
However, Heytens said some of the Republican senators may begin to “crack”, and some have agreed to meet with Garland. Some have said they will not even meet with Judge Garland. This was the argument created by current Vice President Joe Biden in the video below (from 24 years ago). But now, their political gamesmanship is more irresponsible and has greater consequences for a co-equal branch of government than ever before. However, there is no constitutional requirement to be a lawyer or judge, and absolutely anyone could be a nominee. We have never held up a Supreme Court nomination.
“We will stand by him from now until he is confirmed and he is sitting on the Supreme Court”, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough said on “Fox News Sunday”.
“[Obama] wanted to nominate someone who he thought might be able to get a vote on the Senate floor”, Prakash said. The average American who refused to comply with the basic tenets of his or her job would be fired.
“And the American people will decide by either voting for a Republican or Democrat what the makeup of the court is”.
Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina defended Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley’s decision not to consider President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, during the weekly Republican address released Saturday. The citizens did have a say when Barack Obama was elected as president, twice.
Obama nominated Merrick Garland on Wednesday to fill the vacancy left after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. And I am telling everybody that’s watching this, the senators aren’t going to allow that.
Or because President Obama’s demonstrated contempt for the Constitution’s explicit text and for implicit constitutional manners justifies Republicans reciprocating with contempt for his Supreme Court choice, regardless of its merits.

It was also interesting to watch another Senate Republican, Orrin Hatch of Utah, try to cover his backside about the Garland nomination. Now, senators must do their jobs. And then maybe ultimately, if I’m president, which I think we have a good shot at being, maybe he’ll be under consideration for the Supreme Court.
