Blue Jays: SS Troy Tulowitzki (thumb) swung off a tee Tuesday and was feeling better, Gibbons said.

Maybe it was a tip-off that something wasnt right with McCullers when he gave up a two-out home run to Bautista in the third inning, then another to Edwin Encarnacion leading off the fourth.

“It was probably good it was a tight situation because you can get caught up in the moment, ” said Barnes. Dickey had surrendered a total of 17 earned runs over his last three starts, but he reversed course by not issuing a walk for the first time this season. “I felt strong. I felt me and Russell got into a pretty good groove early and carried that throughout the game”. I didnt go into it thinking I had to pitch a complete game.

R.A. Dickey carried a shutout into the seventh inning and benefitted from a pair of solo home runs in the Toronto Blue Jays’ 2-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park. Beyond the whole losing the game thing, the Night In Houston Pitching was a mixed bag.

“I think his experience and talent, what he’s accomplished his entire career, we feel like it gives us a chance to have someone that could be pitching in Game 2 or 3 or 4 in a World Series run”, said Atkins. Grilli pitched a ideal ninth for his second save as a Blue Jay.

Jose Altuve led off the bottom of the 14th inning with a single. He went 1 for 4. Dickey is 2-5 with a 4.96 ERA in 13 career appearances (11 starts) versus Houston and has struggled against Carlos Gomez (7-for-13), who missed the opener with a hamstring injury.McCullers has struck out 10 while winning each of his last two starts.

Meanwhile the Blue Jays reinstated Ryan Goins from the disabled list, recalled reliever Bo Schultz and designated pitcher Franklin Morales for assignment. The Astros will select RHP James Hoyt to the major league roster on Wednesday with RHP Doug Fister going on the paternity list for the birth of his first child.

The Toronto Blue Jays made just a handful of moves on Monday as Major League Baseball’s trade deadline passed and only a few which impacted the Buffalo Bisons. Estrada allowed four runs in his last outing Friday against Baltimore, the most runs he had allowed since May 14 when he was tagged for five runs.
