This will be Lorenzen’s second career game against the Pirates. The good news for Pittsburgh backers, however, is that A.J. Burnett is on the hill.

Blue Jays 5, Royals 2 • Dioner Navarro hit a two-run home run, and Russell Martin and Josh Donaldson added solo shots for host Toronto. I suppose it’s comforting to note that Reds that aren’t enveloped in trade talk and appear to be around for awhile when bonkers on the evening, right? We’re all just trying to finish up strong. The Pirates are 2-9 in the last 11 meetings.

In the eighth, outfielder Jaff Decker became the first Pirates position player to pitch in a game since Travis Snyder on June 18, 2014, vs. Cincinnati.

The 24-year-old has been slated to start two other games for the Reds this season, but both wound up being rained out.

“He had nice command of his fastball, especially going inside to right-handed hitters, and he was able to handle pitching with a lead”, Price said.

Burnett [8-5] allowed eight runs [seven earned] on 10 hits in 4.1 innings. “There were a lot of guys with good days (on offense) for us”.

Sampson was called up to the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday afternoon and will be available to pitch for the club tonight at home against Pittsburgh. “But he said that it was well-deserved and to keep continuing what I’ve been doing to get to this point”. “You want to get out there, throw strikes, get back in and score more runs”. First baseman Joey Votto continued his torrid pace at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two walks to pace a 19-hit Cincinnati attack.

The Pirates made two deals in less than 24 hours to upgrade what was already one of the NL’s top bullpens, acquiring Joe Blanton from Kansas City for versatility and Joakim Soria from Detroit as another set-up reliever. 458 with three homers in his past six at home against Pittsburgh but is 1 for 9 versus Burnett this season. McCutchen tied it 3-3 with his 15th homer off Lorenzen, who fell to 0-4 in his last six starts.

Thursday was a night to forget for A.J. Burnett after the 38-year-old allowed eight runs in 4.1 innings in a 15-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.

Burnett departed, and leadoff man Phillips greeted Guerra with a three-run blast to left. “It’s sad”.

Burnett hit Tucker Barnhart with a 2-2 pitch and then Holmberg pulled away from a bunt and hit a single advancing Barnhart to third base.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Phillips is the only player since RBIs became official statistics in 1920 with four hits, two home runs, seven RBIs and two stolen bases in one game.

Phillips connected again off Guerra in the sixth for a 14-2 lead.

Billy Hamilton stole two bases, leaving him with a major league-leading 49 in 56 attempts. He gave up a double and a single, but no runs. Cincinnati (46-54) won its third straight game after taking two of three at first-place St. Louis.
