McDonald’s swaps out toys for books in its Happy Meals
The other books it will give away, many of which have a Valentine’s Day theme, are Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond and Pete the Cat: Valentine’s Day Is Cool by Kimberly and James Dean.by Kimberly and James Dean.

And the books will each be specially made to measure 4.5 inches by 5.5 inches, so that they can fit snugly inside those iconic Happy Meal boxes.
McDonald’s said the promotion will mean it will have given away a total of more than 50 million books between 2013 and 2016.
From Tuesday 9 through Monday 15 February, its stores in the United States will change the plastic toys – or variations thereof – that usually accompany its kids’ menus, known as Happy Meals, for books.
Along with Happy Meal Books, the fast food chain also partnered with and donated 100,000 books to the non-profit organization Reading is Fundamental to aid in its literacy program.
Because, instead of a toy, they’ll be finding something even better; a book!
“We are pleased McDonald’s is helping millions of children discover the joy of reading”. The fast food chain’s ran similar programs in 2013 and 2015.
McDonalds has four books in their line-up, three of them Valentine’s Day themed (McDouble your suffering). “Studies prove the simple act of reading a book to a child at bedtime has a direct impact on his or her educational growth and potential”.
