McDonalds to sell chicken nuggets completely free from artificial preservatives

A representative for McDonald’s, Becca Hary, did not immediately respond when asked which artificial preservatives are being removed.

The fast food chain plans to replace fructose corn syrup in hamburger buns with sugar this month due to concerns that it may be linked to obesity and diabetes.

Despite this making food production more pricey McDonald’s senior vice president for supply chain, Marion Gross, has promised we’ll continue to pay the same price. So are artificial preservatives in Chicken McNuggets and some breakfast items. This announcement comes a year and a half after McDonald’s publicly committed to require its poultry suppliers to stop using medically important antibiotics, and after a continued dialogue with Friends of the Earth and a coalition of groups working to end the misuse of antibiotics in meat production.

McDonald’s originally set out to achieve its antibiotics chicken commitment by March 2017.Through a collaborative effort with its suppliers and farmers on a large scale, the company was able to make this change a reality and bring it to its customers almost a year ahead of schedule. “Operational efficiency has actually moved down in the ranks of priority because we want to focus most of all on the food”, Lance Richards, vice president of menu strategy, told the Chicago Tribune in January.

“We are creating a different food culture at McDonald’s and that attitude is infused in everything that we do”, Mike Andres, president-McDonald’s U.S., said at a meeting with reporters at the company’s headquarters.

Extra costs related to the changes will not be passed on to consumers, partly because a decline in commodity prices has reduced some food expenses, Andres said.

– McDonald’s now is serving chicken that is free of antibiotics. The menu, which included premium items like chipolata sausage and Belgian waffles, heralded in the chain’s new prioritization of food quality over speed.
