McGregor beats Diaz in UFC 202 bloodbath

Irishman McGregor started the second in similar fashion, again dropping Diaz with another straight left hand and again allowing him back to his feet. Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor returned for the second fight of their colorful rivalry, resulting in a chaotic five-round war for the ages.

Diaz has fought the majority of his prizefighting career at 155 pounds and is now ranked as a number 4 lightweight competitor in the UFC.

“This time I want to do it at 155 pounds, I came in at 170 with him as the bigger man and I overcame that adversity”. “Let’s regroup and do it again”. If you want this trilogy its on my terms. Come back to 155 [pounds].

In a highly anticipated rematch of their two-round welterweight thriller in March, the two put on an action-packed fight on Saturday night in Las Vegas, with each taking control at different moments. Although McGregor was able to come away with the victory in the rematch, Diaz felt that he should have won.

But the ground work laid by McGregor in the first few rounds proved too much for Diaz to overcome.

“I don’t know what Nate was doing when he goes out there and boxes”.

In recent months, UFC featherweight world champion Conor McGregor has been talking about the possibility of a fantasy fight with retired five division world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

McGregor outboxed Diaz on most occasions and his punches were much more accurate which made it really hard for Diaz to go for takedowns.

When the dust had settled on his victory, McGregor then revealed he would relish the chance to fight in Ireland. “He brought out the best in me”. But the two 48-47 scores were enough to give the embattled and outspoken McGregor the win.

However, the Dublin-born fighter looked to be tiring in the third round as the momentum shifted to Diaz, who landed a number of sickening blows to McGregor’s head and body. “I don’t really throw leg kicks, in my whole career I’ve thrown about three”, he said. Brock Lesnar quickly broke that record in July at UFC 200, when he received $2.5 million to fight Mark Hunt.
