At that point, camps for both fighters were shouting at each other and before long McGregor was grabbing full cans and bottles from the stage and firing them back at his opponent.

“But I thought the show was over, so I left the show”. McGregor dropped Diaz in the opening round and in the third. The 31-year-old Diaz took the fight on less than two weeks’ notice after then-champion Rafael dos Anjos was forced out due to injury.

“Regroup. We’ll do it again, this time at 155 pounds”.

“I want number three”, Diaz added.

Following his majority decision win in a bloody, epic war on Saturday night, the Irishman reiterated this stance.

There are a lot of options for McGregor’s next fight. Diaz immediately sprang to his feet and closed out the fight with a takedown of his own.

As far as McGregor goes, win, lose or draw he is headed to 45 to defend his featherweight title against Jose Aldo later this year as long as neither man gets injured.

As for Diaz, his stock was not hurt by this loss.

But it was a case of Deja Vu for McGregor in the third round as he once again appeared to run out of gas.

In the co-main event, light heavyweight contenders Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira square off in a title-eliminator. A win will give him a four-fight win streak. He has won all these fights by knockout.

Despite his success at 170 pounds, Cerrone in his post-fight interview said he’d be willing to drop back to 155 and fight champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 on November 12 in Madison Square Garden – the first UFC card to be held in NY.

Cerrone defeated Story by TKO in the second round.

After the fight McGregor announced “the king is back”. Cerrone defeated Alvarez back in 2014.

If you’re in the USA, the fight is being shown live on pay-per-view and more information can be found here.

Fighters had until 10am local time here in Las Vegas (6pm Irish time) to step on the scales.
