She said if the tentative agreement is ratified, students will be back in school Tuesday. “Let’s get back to school”.

School board President Steve Bellmore says he appreciates the long hours put in by negotiators on both sides.

The McHenry Community High School District 156 school board and the 150-member McHenry Community High School Educators’ Association said Saturday they reached a “tentative agreement” overnight. “One of the things we were the most concerned about was the loss of our salary schedule and I can tell you that the current contract has a salary schedule in it”, said Heidi Dunn, teachers spokesperson.

The board has proposed stretching out the schedule by adding half-steps, which board members have said is a more financially responsible structure in a long-term sense.

Union and school district representatives plan to meet for another negotiation session later today.

Since the strike began October. 1, students not only missed classes, but all sporting events and extracurricular activities.
