McIlroy annoyed by second round
The best players in golf will all converge at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin as the US PGA Championship continues.

It took a flash storm at Whistling Straits to stop the Australian charge as Jason Day and Matt Jones surged to the lead in the weather-delayed second round of the US PGA Championship.
After sitting in a share of third at four-under after his first round, Lee couldn’t find any birdies when starting on the back nine this morning, bogeying the par five 16th to slip well off the pace early on.
It’s already become a trend, but now it’s getting surreal – Tiger Woods will very likely miss the cut in three of the season’s four majors.
World number one Rory McIlroy, second-ranked Jordan Spieth and British Open champion Zach Johnson drew the biggest crowds of the day for their afternoon rounds and did not disappoint with a blend of the brilliant, unexpected and unfortunate.
McIlroy had an even closer look over the past two days at the man who is zeroing in on stealing the coveted No. 1 spot in the world golf rankings. “I’m just happy to be back in contention and position”.
The Swede had topped the leaderboard at eight-under for the tournament after birdies at three of his first five holes.
Geoff Ogilvy is four over after eight holes of round two while Steven Bowditch is finished at five over.
Day is through 14 holes and Jones is through 12.
It was McIlroy’s first official round since the final day of the U.S. Open on June 21 at Chambers Bay, where he tied for ninth.
The pair started two off the overnight lead but made their charge to give Australia hope of claiming a first major since the 2013 Masters and first PGA Championship since Steve Elkington won in 1995.
More complex scenarios include Spieth in a two-way tie for second place and McIlroy outside the top 13, and Spieth in a three-way tie for second with McIlroy not among the top 33.
“I’m pleased with it”, said the 22-year-old American.
This was the 27th round of 63 recorded at a major. “It was good to get the two shots back that I dropped on 18 and I gave myself good chances on the third and fifth, but did not take them”.
“It’s hard to tell what’s going to happen this week, but where I am right now, I’m feeling really comfortable with my game”, he said.
“Whatever David ate this morning, I’d like to eat tomorrow”, said an admiring Jordan Spieth, who managed a one-under 71 in the testing late conditions.
“I just kind of visualised it and it happened exactly the way I had it pictured in my mind”.
Woods made two birdies to briefly get to 1 over but ended up hitting out of one bunker and into another on the fourth hole en route to a double bogey.

“It was cool to see him out there”, said McIlroy, who noticed Rodgers taking in the final few holes. He bogeyed once, on the par-3 12th hole, but had six birdies during the round. Instead, he and the others who have more holes to play in the second round – including Tiger Woods, who is 4 over for the tournament – will wake up before sunrise and head back to work.
