TROON, Scotland, July 16 Overnight pacesetter Phil Mickelson and Henrik Stenson were locked together at the top of the leaderboard on 11-under-par after six holes of the British Open third round on Saturday.
McIlroy slammed his 3-wood into the turf sending the club head one way and the shaft another after carving his second to the par-5 16th way right. Watch a clip of Rory’s fury below.
“Instead, most of the questions I get are comparing (my performances) to a year ago and, therefore, are negative because it’s not to the same standard”. So it was probably partly to do with that and partly the throw as well.
“I think I’ve been saying all week that you need to get off to a good start on this golf course, and you need to be under par early, and I wasn’t able to do that”, the 2014 champion admitted. “No one likes to make the same mistake twice, and that’s basically what happened”.

“I’m struggling reading them and then, because of that, I have a tough time hitting a nice, solid putt on a line and being confident about it”.
