McIlroy, 26, was the defending champion at The Open and this week’s Bridgestone.

The No. 1-ranked player in the world, McIlroy suffered ligament damage to his left ankle while playing soccer with his friends on July 4 in Northern Ireland.
McIlroy teamed up with popular golf tricksters the Bryan Brothers at Whistling Straits – the home of the US PGA Championship – to take part in a two-minute long trick shot session. McIlroy’s agent did not respond to Reuters request for comment and an employee at Whistling Straits would not confirm that McIlroy has a practice round scheduled.
Previously, he said that although his rehab was going well, he did not want to rush back before he was ready. McIlroy had to pass on a defense of his 2014 Open Championship and his 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational win but it appears he will at least try to give it a go and defend his PGA Championship title in 10 days.
World No. 1 McIlroy will lead the field at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin next week when the major kicks off on August 10.
