McIlroy scheduled to play PGA Championship

Over the last two days, the 26-year-old has posted a series of photos and videos on Instagram showing his rehabilitation from the ruptured ligaments in his left ankle sustained while playing soccer with friends, depicting one of his powerful drive from the tee, and what appears to be the cockpit of a private jet bound for the United States.

The post was later retweeted by McIlroy’s account, quashing any remaining doubts.

Spieth admitted that was harder to do at the British Open. He hasn’t played a tournament since June’s U.S. Open.

Dustin Johnson, Jason Day and Rickie Fowler will begin play at 9:05 ET, and Phil Mickelson, Jason Dufner and Padraig Harrington will go at 2:30 p.m ET.

Tonight however, US golf chiefs have released the tee sheet for Whistling Straits, with McIlroy with Jordan Speith in a box office pairing come Thursday. And he has good memories of Whistling Straits, where he lost in a playoff on the final hole in 2010 to Martin Kaymer. He didn’t fare well at Whistling Straits the last two times he played, tying for 24th in 2004 and 28th in 2010.

The PGA Championship, like other majors, doesn’t require players to officially commit. He won the PGA Championship last year at Valhalla.

Of course, Spieth has some ground to make up to win the Bridgestone this week. No one has ever swept all three U.S. majors in the same year.

Ryder Cup captains Davis Love III and Darren Clarke are in the same group with Steve Stricker, who is likely to be a captain in the future.

“I recognize that there’s only been a couple times that people have won three majors in a year, and that would be just such special company, ” Spieth said.

Meanwhile, the PGA Championship field was set at 154 players, leaving two spots open in Wisconsin in case the winners of the Bridgestone Invitational or the Barracuda Championship in Nevada on the PGA Tour were not already eligible.

And now he’s jetting from Portugal to somewhere in the U.S. Dare we say that Rory is… back?
