McIlroy wins in Boston
Rory McIlroy wins the Deutsche Bank Championship for the second time in his career, two shots above overnight leader Paul Casey.

And this despite standing four over par after his opening three holes of the tournament. “There’s a lot that can happen, and I proved that to myself this week”.
And Sunday night was able to wrap them around another trophy and a championship belt.
For all of McIlroy’s success – 21 worldwide wins, including four major championships – he has proven to be a tremendous front-runner.
McIlroy’s 6-under 65 Monday included a 31 on the front nine, as he charged into a share of the lead with Casey.
“It’s definitely not the finished article, but it’s a big step in the right direction”, said McIlroy, who began the day six strokes off the lead.
Where McIlroy ranked 77th in putting in last week’s Barclays Championship in a season where the putter had been his weakest club, the transformation since working with Kenyon was nearly immediate as he was ranked third in putting in the Deutsche Bank where he was also ranked first in driving and, most importantly of all, finished with the lowest score.
“I have won Race to Dubais and I have won order of merits and been a money victor on the PGA Tour but never lifted the FedEx Cup itself”, McIlroy said.
The Northern Irish world No 5 ended his round in style, hitting an exquisite bunker shot to within two feet at the par-five 18th for a tap-in four, his seventh birdie of the day, as he clinched his 12th PGA Tour victory. Casey had a 60-foot eagle putt on the final hole that would have forced a playoff. But he knocked the shot to 15 feet, sank the birdie putt and continued his strong play.
“Wow, very impressive. Yeah, that’s a mighty round of golf”, said Paul Casey, who had to settle for a runner-up finish.
“I struggled a little bit from the get-go and it’s hard to regain rhythm and make your birdies if you hadn’t started out that way, so I found it incredibly difficult”, the 39-year-old Brit said.
“It’s just incredible, this game, how quickly things can change and how quickly things can turn around”, he explained.
“I thought it’s a great opportunity being 4 over through three holes to do something that I had never done before, to be in that position and go on and win a golf tournament”, said McIlroy, who moved to third in the world rankings and fourth in the FedEx Cup race with his victory. PGA champion Jimmy Walker closed with a 70 to finish third.
The top 70 players on the FedExCup points list advance to this week’s BMW Championship in Carmel, Indiana, where the leading 30 will qualify for the Sep. Hearn closed with a 70 and tied for eighth. He finished in a tie for 57th, but has still done enough to move on to the next event. The man who couldn’t hole a putt to save his life in missing the halfway cut at the USPGA last month has got his confidence back on the greens thanks to some sage advice from putting guru, Phil Kenyon. McIlroy also switched putters last week at Bethpage Black, though he was at the bottom of the pack in putting.
However, McIlroy appeared to open the door for Casey five holes later when he pulled his tee shot left on No. 17 and settled for a bogey when the second shot from the deep rough came up short of the green.
As the wind picked up, no one could stay with him.
“I am really proud of myself for battling that first day, getting some momentum on Saturday and just going with that”.

McIlroy now has 12 victories on the PGA Tour, and he takes plenty of momentum to Crooked Stick. I knew my game was in good shape, I just needed to do something with the putting.
