As indicated by Times Now, the Uttar Pradesh” veterinary division has affirmed that the meat found on Akhlaq’s home was “mutton” not “beef’.

The report said that meat weighing about 4-5 kg in the form of small pieces, which was non-hygienic, red in colour and foul smelling with deposits of white fat was received for further tests. “For final diagnosis and confirmation samples have been taken and sent to the forensic laboratory in Mathura”, the report reads. Both the foreleg and hind legs were also recovered.

The report comes just days after the police charged 15 people, including a minor, in the lynching case. One of the suspects named in the chargesheet is a juvenile and will be tried before the Juvenile Justice Board. The group assumed it was Akhlaq who had discarded the packet.

PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said that the report of the veterinary officer had proved beyond doubt that the meat kept in the fridge of Mohammad Akhlaq was mutton, not beef. Shivam had claimed that the meat was thrown into a drain by Akhlaq and dogs had pulled out the same.
