Mediate ties course and Senior PGA records
Willett sets record at BMW: VIRGINIA WATER, England – Masters champion Danny Willett had six birdies in a tournament-record 29 on the front nine at the BMW PGA Championship and shot a 4-under 68 for a share of the lead with Australia’s Scott Hend and South Korea’s Y.E. Yang at Wentworth in the European Tour’s flagship event. It made a huge difference. He added birdies on the par-5 fifth, par-4 eighth and par-5 ninth, leaving an eagle putt an inch short on the last, to reach 14-under 128.

In fact, one of Mediate’s best putts was a 25-footer at 16 for par which curled all the way around the cup before falling.
His total of 265 was the lowest in the tournament’s history and Montgomerie was quick to pay tribute. He thought that experience helped him Sunday. “I played some of the best golf in my life that day and lost”. He punctuated his first PGA Tour victory in Texas with a closing 34-foot putt when needing only a bogey to win.
A bogey on the previous hole compounded Daly’s woes, but the American managed to eek out a pair of pars to make the turn at 5-over. The three-time PGA Tour victor has successfully fought a rare skin condition, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, to play the 50-and-over tour.
Montgomerie had a 68. All credit to Rocco. The Scot won in 2014 at Harbor Shores and past year at French Lick Resort in Indiana. He will try to defend his U.S. Open title in three weeks at Oakmont.
“All credit to Rocco”, Montgomerie said. “That hole was good to me this week”.
“I told Monty driving in that it was like playing like you guys every once in a while”, Mediate said.
With the victory – the third of his career on the PGA Tour Champions and first since 2013 – Mediate receives a lifetime exemption into the Senior PGA Championship, exemptions into the remaining PGA Tour Champions majors in 2016 and a check for $504,000. Jutanugarn doesn’t plan to play the next event in New Jersey, where she would have had a shot to become the first since Lorena Ochoa in 2008 to win four scheduled tournaments in a row.
Daly’s undoing may have come from just two holes in the first round. “It’s just too many unforced errors”.
John DalCorobbo tied for seventh at 11 under to top the club professionals, shooting a 71.
Dal Corobbo is an assistant professional at Brickyard Crossing in Indianapolis, Ind. – you know, the golf course with four holes that are routed through the infield at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500.
