iOS 9 may not look radically different from iOS 8, but it hides a number of features.
Even though it shows no sign of stopping this year, adding Find My Friends, Find My iPhone, News, Wallet, and iCloud Drive, Apple’s chief Tim Cook said he was open to the idea of allowing users to remove some apps. This means you can better see what’s going on before choosing to jump into an app, while also being able to see apps that have been triggered from a Mac or iPad using hand-off for the first time. The aptly named Photo Transfer App from ERCLab fits the bill.
It’s a big software day for Apple. There are new features like Slide Over for viewing select apps on the side of the screen as well as Picture in Picture for videos, both of which are available on the iPad Pro, iPad Air and later, and the iPad mini 2 and later. Your notes will now be stored on iCloud, so your lists are updated across all your iOS devices. This code is automatically displayed on your other Apple devices or sent to your phone. These let you block ads and other elements on webpages.
– Battery life: Besides under-the-hood improvements, a new low-power mode will reduce or turn off non-essential tasks such as visual effects and automatic downloads. Apple will release the update at 10:00AM San Francisco time, which is 10:30PM IST and that is when the iOS 9 update will start rolling out to iPhones, iPads and even the iPod Touch.
If you get a text notification, you can pull it down and reply without opening the Messages app. This has been possible since iOS 8. So, for example, when a notification pops up that someone has left a comment on your photo, you could quickly “like” their comment or reply to it without interrupting your work – should Facebook decide to implement this feature.
iOS is coming late to the multitasking party.
Microsoft updated its iOS apps for Word, Excel and Powerpoint. You can restore grouping by app in the settings. This feature works with many other apps too, making switching between them a lot faster and simpler.
Apple has also redesigned the multitasking view with animated cards.
Apple’s iPhone comes with several apps that are out of the box, such as Mail, Tips, Stocks, the Safari Web browser and an Apple Watch app. These apps take up valuable storage space and therefore are a major problem for the people who do not make use of them.
Apple’s own Flipboard-like News app lets you read articles from various news sources in a beautiful interface. Another change is that the old Newsstand app has been removed. Just tap the Command key on your external keyboard to get an overview of all shortcuts.
